Genevieve (The Flying Studio Director)

Continuing her lifelong love affair with dancing and arriving in her role as a pole dance performer and teacher through the non-traditional (non-nude) route, Genevieve has practiced the art since 2001. Quickly realising that she had found her forté, she began teaching in 2002 and opened her first specialist teaching facility in 2006. Friendly and approachable, graduate Genevieve's down to earth attitude and knowledgeable teaching style encourages and inspires the pole dancing goddess in every woman to unapologetically kick loose. Genevieve has been certified as a Level 3 Pole Dance Instructor by the PDC - one of only four in the country. Read the full article here. This award represents the highest certification possible and is granted in recognition of excellence in teaching quality and exemplary contribution to the pole fitness industry. Genevieve performed pole dance in the public arena in the days when it was thought that pole dancing would never be performed outside the strip clubs. She still performs regularly to many different audiences.

Performing in the first ever UK pole dance competitions, she is often a national pole dancing competition finalist. Increasingly others have looked to her to judge national competitions and from 2007-2010 she judged the very popular Pole Divas Competition. This role is especially important as the number of women learning pole dancing all over the country and bravely entering competitions has increased at an amazing rate in the last few years. She has taught many women (and at some events, men) the noble art of pole dancing.

During 2011, Genevieve rested from judging and competed in UK Pole Artistes Championships and UK Professional Pole Championships gaining bronze medal and reaching the semi-finals respectively.

Genevieve is an Equity member and co-founded Equity Pole Dancer's Working Party (EPDWP), which campaigns alongside Equity for pole dance performer's rights and organises the annual UK Pole Dance Day on May 1st. Genevieve is also on the technical committee within the International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF) which is in the process of lobbying for pole dancing Olympic success.

Genevieve teaches all levels of pole dance from complete beginner to advanced. She is also a mentor and trainer of pole dance teachers, performers, and those wanting to enter competitions.

Genevieve works professionally as a non-nude pole dancer: for major record labels, as part of evening cabaret (click here), major dance institutions (performing to and also teaching thousands of women) and has performed at many exciting events both private and corporate including; theatre, celebratory events, formal balls, weekend dance events and workshops. more...

Susie (The Flying Studio Teacher - Leicester)

Susie began pole dancing in 2006. As a student of The Flying Studio combined with self teaching, her dedicated and fearless approach to her pole dance training led her to reach the final of the Pole Divas 2007 competition.

Susie’s performance style is one that fuses high quality pole dance techniques with athleticism. As a performer, she reveals to the audience the elements that she most enjoys about pole dancing (i.e. the combination of dance and strength exercises) thus creating unique expressive interpretations.

Coming from a sport based background and with more than five years of higher education teaching experience, Susie’s enthusiasm for her student’s learning in the pole dance studio stems from her enjoyment and understanding of the physical challenge of learning new moves. She breaks moves down easily during lessons, where she creates a safe, fun and friendly atmosphere.

Future performance aims include: showcasing, competitions and furthering her ongoing relevant training, including aerial work.

Nicki (The Flying Studio Teacher - Derby)

Nicki began pole dancing in 2005 when she nervously and excitedly attended a pole dancing course with a friend. Having trained in gymnastics from a young age, Nicki felt pole dancing was a natural progression from this discipline and found it to be a fun workout which left her feeling fitter, stronger, more toned and flexible, also more confident and energised.

Nicki is a regular attendee at pole training sessions (combining lessons at The Flying Studio with self teaching), pole dancing and live music events and her passion for pole dancing and music has spurred her on to continue her pole dance training and lead her to progress further with her skills.

Nicki’s approach to teaching reflects her personality and style of pole dance. Well grounded and having a calming influence, Nicki’s unhurried style of teaching means that her classes are relaxed and fun. This can truly be seen in her pole dancing, as her personal style is effortless, full of grace and has a mystical quality to it. This is testament to the time and effort spent practicing and a reflection of her dedication. Nicki aims to help fulfil the potential of her students and share the fun, the fitness and the buzz that pole dancing gives her.

As well as choreographing routines as a dedicated gymnast, Nicki has also performed in and choreographed dance routines for small musical productions. During 2007, Nicki has enjoyed returning to performing, this time as a (non-nude) pole dancer in various venues.

Nicki hopes to improve her pole skills further still by training in aerial arts and continue public performance by choreographing new shows and entering pole dancing competitions.
