Pole Dance Classes
Pole dancing relies on sufficient grip of the metal pole in order for moves to be executed successfully. For this reason, bare arms and legs are necessary during studio lessons. Shorts and vest top or similar are recommended. Footwear can be split sole jazz shoes or ballet shoes. Alternatively, if you prefer, bare feet. You will soon find what suits you. Below you will find classes and courses available (please scroll to the bottom of the page), course and class description and prices.

Note: Skin must be free of oils or lotions for classes. Please remove hand jewelery (rings, bracelets and watches).

During the course of your instruction, you will learn the rudiments of pole dancing, including:

  • Hand positions and grip of the pole
  • The correct posture and stance of the body during pole dancing
  • Sensual movement
  • Spins
  • Floor work and transitions
  • Accentuation moves
  • Climbing

The above elements are continued throughout the course, coupled with progression (in subsequent levels) to:

  • Static moves
  • Inversions
  • Choreography and combined moves
  • Audience awareness
  • Styling
  • Continued self development
  • Continued building upon previously learned elements

Lessons are available in the following format:

  • Taster Sessions (1 hour)
  • 6 week Pole Dancing courses (1 hour per week)
  • Practice sessions
  • Drop in Sessions
  • Lunchtime sessions
  • Celebratory sessions (1.5 hours)
  • Private lessons
  • Masterclasses
  • Workshops (Corporate or Private)
  • Team Building (Corporate or Private)

All classes (except celebratory sessions) last for one hour. Courses last for 6 weeks.

Taster Sessions are for students who wish to try pole dancing before committing to a course. Taster sessions are the equivalent of the first lesson of the Level 1 course.

Pole Dancing is taught at 10 different levels:

Level 1 (novice), Level 2 (novice/intermediate), Level 3 (intermediate/advanced), Level 4 (advanced/artistic), Level 5 (advanced/artistic plus), Level 6, Level 7, Level 8, Level 9, Level 10 (advanced/extreme).

As all elements build on the previous levels; Level 1 must be completed before progression to Level 2. Level 2 must be completed before progression to Level 3 and so on.

Level 1 - 10 each lasts for 6 weeks.

Taster Sessions
These are great if you are a little unsure about whether pole dancing is for you before comitting to a course.  Cost is £15 per person and booking is essential as spaces are strictly limited.  Available to beginners only.

Courses (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4)
These courses are where you would start when you first begin learning pole dancing and are structured so that you get the most out of the sessions.  We teach in a linear way and have found this is the most beneficial technique to your understanding of learning pole dance.

Level 1 is for complete beginners and you do not have to attend a taster session before enrolling.

If you have previously attended another school for your Level 1 equivalent, for example, you may wish to attend Level 2 or Level 3.  You may wish to attend the Level 1 course as there is likely to be content not covered elsewhere.  We can assess you in one of the other suitable classes or during a private lesson.  There are 1 to 2 people per pole.  You will need to book these in advance as spaces are strictly limited.  During the courses you will learn from a large repertoire of moves including but not exclusive to; linking moves, transitions, inverts, spins and combinations.  Courses cost £99 per person for 6 consectutive weeks.

Ongoing Classes for Intermediate or Advanced Level (Levels 5-10+)
The Intermediate class is for students who have completed level 3 or 4 (or equivalent) either with us or at another pole dance school.  The Advanced class is for students who have completed level 5+ (or equivalent) either with us or at another pole dance school.  During these classes you can work towards achieving higher level certificates.  Content varies from week to week.  You can join these classes at any time and you can buy 1 session for £15, 4 sessions for £50 or 10 sessions for £118.  If you already have your name down or are booked in for week beginning 7th September, you will remain in the class that you are booked for.

Drop-In Classes
These classes are for all levels (from complete beginner to advanced).  You do not have to book in advance and are ideal if you cannot make each week or work shifts for example.  Content varies each week as do class numbers (maximum 3 or 4 to a pole).  New students are always welcome any time from any school.  Cost is £5 per person payable in cash on arrival at class.

Private Lessons
What would you like to work on?  More tricks?  Variations?  Progressing moves?  Polishing up?  Linking things together?  Finding different ways to get out of moves?  Combos?

All are our speciality!  Private lessons are great if you have something specific that you would like to work on or would like to progress more quickly with your pole dancing.  Private lessons cost £39 per person or £49 for 2 people sharing.

Aerial Classes
Mostly using Silks and trapeze, these classes are challenging, great fun and a great accompaniment to your pole dancing.  There are many similarities between pole dance and aerial dance and you will see how enjoyable and challenging this class can be.  Cost is £15 for 1 session or £50 for 4.  You can join this class anytime as it will be ongoing from the upcoming 4 week block.

Student Classes
We run Derby University Pole Dance Society classes.  These classes are for all levels (from complete beginner to advanced).  You do not have to book in advance, but you do need to show a valid NUS card upon attendance.  Content varies each week as do class numbers (maximum 3 or 4 to a pole).  New students are always welcome any time.  Cost is £5 per person payable in cash on arrival at class.

Please locate the class that you wish to attend on the timetable
